We are committed to the highest quality of customer service and our goal is to save you time and money and to ensure the most efficient equipment repairs possible. HOFFMAN REFRIGERATION believes not only in superior customer service but in educating our customers as well. We believe that it’s important that you know how your home AC & Heating system works. Our technicians work hard to not only service and repair your equipment, but to teach you a little bit about it along the way as well.
Do you know how the components of your Tempe AC system work? Well, here is a little bit of information that may help you to understand how your air conditioning system functions. That box outside of your house, which you may believe is the entire air conditioning system, is just one of the many pieces of equipment involved in cooling your home. It’s called a “Condenser”. It’s generally located on the ground somewhere in a home’s yard or on the roof of the home. The condenser operates like our body’s sweat glands. Your body needs a way to cool down when exercising or even just walking around in the Arizona heat. Well, your AC’s refrigerant needs a way to cool down as well because it absorbs heat. The condenser is there to cool down the refrigerant before it goes into the compressor; which is located inside that condenser box. The compressor looks somewhat like an upside-down bucket and it operates like the heart in your body – it pumps refrigerant (also called Freon) through your entire Tempe AC system. The refrigerant is like blood – blood transfers or transports many things, like nutrients for example, just as refrigerant changes states to provide cooling. Now, blood can’t move through the body without veins, and just like veins air conditioning systems have “Line Sets” which come out of the compressor and feed the refrigerant into and then back out of your home. This is a closed loop system. The refrigerant is pumped out of the compressor into your home and then returns in a different state ready to be pumped back through again. Your system also has a part called the “Filter Drier”. Just as our own body has a kidney to filter itself, the filter drier on an air conditioning system removes unnecessary (non-nutritious) particles. The filter drier is located right next to your condenser. How do all these parts know how and when to operate? Well your system has a control board and like our body’s central nervous system, the control board receives communication from the “brain” of your system (what you would call your “thermostat”). The thermostat communicates to both the condenser and the furnace (which is where the Control board is placed if your unit is what we call a “Split System”). If your unit is a package heat pump, then EVERYTHING involved in running your system is located inside of the condenser box. HOFFMAN REFRIGERATION works all over the valley in cities such as Scottsdale AC Repair , Mesa AC Repair and Gilbert AC Repair but we do not limit ourselves to only the easy valley.
The central nervous system in our bodies is an amazing part of our biology that operates without conscious effort. Your Tempe HVAC system must work in unison with all the pieces of your equipment. Without this “central nervous system” or control board, your home cannot cool or heat properly. Also located in your furnace along with the control board is a “Blower Motor.” Ultimately, the blower motor is the item that moves the air in the home. Blower motors are fans that move air as our legs allow us to walk and run. When the blower motor is running, it sends air across an “Evaporator Coil” pulling warmer air out from the house. The coil absorbs heat and moisture from the home allowing for the air to be cooled then distributed via ductwork throughout; just as our lungs absorb oxygen thereby changing the state of air. When your unit “inhales” we call that the “Return Air” since the return air is the air being taken (or “returned”) into your AC system. Typically, this is done with a vent that is located near your units’ thermostat brain. Air being exhaled from your system is called the “Supply Air” since that is the air being blown back out (or “supplied”) to your home via the ductwork distributed throughout the house.
